In Panayia, small village of Troodhos, was born, in 1913, Mikhail Mouskos, better known under the name of Makarios III.

This archbishop became the first Cypriot president after the Independence in 1960.

He kept this title until his death in 1977.

The Cypriots still worship this "father of the people"!
