Poland Travel Guide : Photos of Cracow

Cracow, a really peaceful and pleasant city.
But that was not always the case:
This fountain recalls that at this very place, a certain Valentine Badelac set himself on fire in 1980.
By this act, he wanted to protest "the state of war" imposed by Moscow, and the massacre of Katyn.
Let us point out that the Soviet forces were initially the allies
of the Nazis, and deported and exterminated tens of thousands
of Poles to Katyn!
