The town of Dubai was built around a gulf that extends about 15 kilometres (9 miles) into the mainland.
It is certain that this enclave, named "Dubai Creek" or "Al-Khor" in Arab, mainly contributed to the city's development.
In fact, its calm water offers a natural port for the "Dhows",
these merchant ships made of wood, that one still encounters
											 in all the Arabian Peninsula.
